Britisher murdered and dead body thrown away in Malgawatta

The police were able to detect the dead body yesterday (2) near the Araliya Uyana playground down Jothipala Mawatha, Maligawattha belonging to a British national who had been brutally assaulted and mysteriously murdered.

The police have been able to identify the victim as one Charles Bear, a 37 year old British national. It has been revealed from investigations that this
foreigner has been getting ready to go back to Britain day-before-yesterday (1); but where he had been lodging and by whom he had been killed was not revealed till last afternoon.

Police suspect that he had been murdered at some other place and his body had been subsequently dumped close to Araliya Uyana playground in Maligawattha. According to investigations conducted, the dead body of this British national had been brought there in a three-wheeler. The Colombo Criminal Investigations Department are engaged in checking CCTV camera footage installed at houses and private institutions near the location where the Britisher's body was lying.

The police have found the passport of this British national in his possession. Colombo Criminal Investigation Department has taken steps to secure the assistance of the British High Commission to detect his identity. What an officer of that office had told police was that this victim was someone who had acquired British citizenship. The officer has further informed that action would be taken to inquire into further information about this British national.

Police say that several injuries were detected on the head and face of this foreigner. Maligawattha Police are conducting investigations under supervision of Deputy Inspector General of Police, Colombo Division, Lalith Pathinayaka, Director of Colombo Criminal Investigations Division, Police Superintendent Nishantha Soysa and Assistant Police Superintendent, Udaya Hemantha.
